Using a QR-code entry point, audience members contribute live danmaku (弹幕) that becomes part of the performance itself, turning the act of watching into an act of complicity, and staging Kafka's themes of spectacle, hunger, and the crowd's gaze as a live formal structure rather than a metaphor. I served as the interactive technologist for the production, designing and building the real-time participation system ​(Node.js + Socket.IO) and architecting the full show-control pipeline: live camera integration, DroidCam to OBS to QLab projection routing, network configuration for reliable in-venue performance, and a kiosk-mode operating setup for the live run. The work sat at the intersection of software, live video, and stagecraft, ensuring the technology stayed invisible so the audience's presence could take center stage. In a world that constantly urges us to move, chase, and achieve, the game asks a simple question: What happens when you stop? Through a physical controller, you step into a digital space shaped by stillness itself. Light filters through trees, clouds drift across the sky, and rain begins to fall. The more you pause and listen, the more the world reveals itself. There are no enemies, no objectives, no scores, only subtle shifts of sound, light, and motion that respond to your presence. Stand Still transforms a moment of inaction into an act of discovery, reminding us that sometimes, standing still is the only way to move forward. One player will play as an umbrella and the other one will play as a glass jar. Players will use physical controllers, a real umbrella and a glass jar to control the corresponding in-game characters. In a magical world where fading stars are falling from the sky, the umbrella transforms from its usual function of shielding rain into a celestial object that bounces stars away and takes players on a journey through the unknown universe. Floating on the opposite side of the umbrella, the glass jar is designed to catch stars that have been bounced by the umbrella. Through this action, we want to evoke the nostalgic childhood memory of folding origami lucky stars and gathering them in a jar.&nbsp; At the beginning, players are unaware of each other's presence in the game, but by the end, they will meet at the midpoint and come to understand how their actions within the game have impacted one another. There is no winning condition in this game, instead, we want to capture the poetic moment of encountering another person and discovering how their actions have brought meaning to each other's worlds. Unlike conventional controllers, our custom umbrella and bottle make players feel like they are acting like the characters in the game. We want them to engage in a way that feels intuitive and connected. Technical wise, we attached an Arduino on each controller. it sends rotation data from its gyroscope to Unity through serial. As the avatar’s skin folds inward, it encapsulates emotions buried within the subconscious mind. The avatar takes the form of a balloon-like figure, drifting freely with a rhythmic cycle of inflation and deflation. When the ceiling lights shift, casting moments of darkness, audiences can engage with the digital skin through a specialized device that senses airflow speed. As participants blow into the device, the digital skin responds and moves through the space, reflecting the intensity of their breath. Simultaneously, the audio’s volume, tone, and frequency shift based on the viewer's distance from the light. To ensure detection from all directions, six ultrasonic sensors are positioned around the setup. The system compares data from each sensor to determine the minimum value, representing the closest object. This value controls the PWM signal through a transformer, adjusting the neon light's brightness. Since ultrasonic sensors can struggle to detect soft materials like clothing, their readings often fluctuate. To stabilize the output and prevent flickering, the system calculates the median of seven consecutive minimum readings. This smoothed value is then sent via serial communication to Max/MSP, dynamically controlling the audio in real time. The ground pins of the six ultrasonic sensors are wired in parallel and connected to the GND pin of Arduino. The power (VCC) pins of the sensors are wired in parallel and connected to the 5V pin of Arduino. Trig and Echo pins of each sensor are connected to one another, thanks to the New Ping Library that allows both Trig and Echo pin to be connected to one digital pin on an Arduino. In the graph above, from top to bottom, Trig and Echo pins from each sensor are connected to digital pin 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 on Arduino Uno. Arduino Uno is powered by a 6V battery pack that is connected to the VIN and GND pin on the Arduino. Arduino Uno can be alternatively powered directly by a DC barrel jack for a permanent installation. Two ends of the Neon Light Bulb are connected to a Neon Transformer (Ventex VT5520) that is plugged into an AC outlet. Mosquito Escape is a game that brings players on a mosquito's journey of survival to escape a human household. A set of custom-made controllers is a great way to introduce players to this unique perspective. By wearing 'mosquito wings', a set of alternative controllers that detects players' motion data, players can experience what it takes for a mosquito to navigate a house filled with deadly obstacles. Players have to flap their wings in the right way or otherwise, they will end up like the one that woke you up on a hot summer night! ITP.&nbsp;It is an exploration game that aims to rekindle the delight of playing make-believe and an experiment to observe the imaginative possibilities that arise from combining tangible objects and virtual content. At the begining of the game, players will be presented with four controllers, each with ambiguous and "weirdly familiar" toy-like shapes. The purpose of each controller will not be explained to the player, and they are encouraged to experiment with them to discover their function. The game is projected onto a screen in front of the players, and the movement of the controllers will cause various in-game variables, such as time, weather, and camera orientation, to change. Project Presentation Research We all used to be kids who love to play make-believe, like imagining a lunch box as a pirate ship or a hat as a UFO. Even the toys we played with were, in essence, lifeless objects, the passion and love we poured into them were lively and real. But it seems that as we grow up, our ability to make lifeless objects come alive diminishes. What happens to creativity as we grow older? One research concludes that preschoolers were more likely to give creative explanations than were the 6-year-olds or adults (Changes, 2017)The research goes further to outline the possible explanation of the result: the tension between two thinking - exploration and exploitation. When we adults face a new problem, we usually exploit the knowledge about the world we have acquired so far and try to quickly find a solution that is close to the solutions we already have. On the other hand, exploration may lead us to a more unusual idea or a new piece of knowledge. But it may also mean that we waste time considering crazy possibilities that will never work, something both preschoolers and teenagers has been known to do (Changes, 2017). Player Tutorial Playtests Game Mechanics&nbsp; In this project, players will have the ability to control floating toys and experience time and weather-dependent events, such as a deer roaming through the snow or a UFO appearing on the horizon during a foggy day. The player's actions will cause trees to grow and the lens filter to shift to black and white. There are many more possibilities waiting for players to discover. Even doing nothing and observing the changes in time and weather can be an enjoyable experience. This slow-paced observatory game does not aim to force players to experience anything extraordinary. ESP32s can connect to WiFi and send the orientation sensor's data to Max Msp through OSC. Max Msp will receive the raw data, categorize them, smooth out the rough part, and scale them to values that can be mapped to different actors in the Unreal Engine. <img width="6744" height="4502"
